What is a Test Tube Baby or IVF and why is it performed?
When Babies are fertilized ‘in vitro’ or ‘in glass’ or ‘petri dish’ then this procedure is commonly referred as ‘test tube baby’ or In vitro fertilization (IVF).

IVF is a complex advanced procedure for an infertility solution. It requires specialized skills, experience and clinical facilities for successful In vitro treatment for infertility. In IVF, the woman eggs are taken out through a planned procedure and then male sperm is entered into it. Tests and diagnosis
Before starting an IVF procedure, a doctor will try to identify possible causes of pregnancy issues faced by both partners. A comprehensive infertility evaluation of couples may be performed who have failed to conceive even after one year of continuous attempts or facing some other infertility risk factors due to their medical history. This infertility evaluation includes a complete physical examination of both the partners, along with an array of laboratory tests.

More Eggs Production
An enhanced production of eggs is initiated in the ovaries of women using ‘Super Ovulation’ method with the help of fertility drugs which contain fertility stimulation hormone or FSH. Also, a vaginal ultrasound is performed to monitor inside activities vagina for eggs production.
Retrieving Eggs from Ovaries
When a sufficient number of eggs is produced, a surgical procedure known as Follicular Aspiration is performed to retrieve the eggs from the ovaries by moving through the vagina. A thin needle is used to suck in the eggs from the ovary and releasing back out. According to experts at least 15 eggs should be taken out for the better success rates of pregnancy.
Artificial Insemination or Fertilization
In this step, a suitable environment is provided to the female eggs and male sperm where they fuse and fertilize with each other. This process is known as Artificial Insemination and usually performed by using an environmentally controlled chamber. After waiting for few hours the male sperm automatically penetrates the egg. If in any case, it fails to penetrate then doctors may use the direct method known Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection. Here, the sperm is directly injected into the eggs and this procedure is more expensive.
Finally, the fertilized egg or embryo is transferred and placed in the womb. Generally, more than one embryos are placed in the womb to increase the chances of success rates.
This procedure is performed with the help of thin tube that contains an embryo and entered through the vagina into the womb. The embryo is placed in such a way that it gets stuck to the lining of uterus or womb. When all above steps are perfectly finished, then it is time to wait for a new guest to make a happy family.
